This week has been busy with work, parenting, and of course, Johnny Weir watching. Seeing what he would wear each day was the most important part of the Olympics for me. Who else could strike a pose in front of a Volvo truck with such panache? Or offer insight on skaters’ performances while peppering his comments with witticisms like “it wouldn’t be ice-dancing without Liza Minelli”? Here are my top picks for his fashion choices:
BRONZE FOR HAIR STYLING
He’s totally rocking the Chanel brooch in the top photo, and I love how he coordinated his hairband with Tara Lipinski’s fascinator.
And I dare you to find anyone who looks more stylish in a hair braid:
SILVER FOR COLOR CHOICE
Pink is fierce for a sports commentator. That’s all I’ll say.
GOLD FOR SEQUINS
I love all that glitters. This outfit made my day. Go Johnny!
I finally had a chance to visit the Met’s “Punk: Chaos To Couture” show. I knew about the bad reviews and had heard from disappointed friends who’d seen the exhibit. So I was prepared to be underwhelmed.
But I actually really enjoyed the show.
Any chance to look at interesting, beautiful clothes is fun for me.
Gareth Pugh’s garbage bag dresses were some of my favorites.
But my sentimental choice for best look was Stephen Sprouse’s red outfit. I remember seeing him hanging out in the East Village before he died.
You’re not allowed to take pictures, not even of the gift shop paraphernalia. Hence my using other people’s images. And I guess the fact that I didn’t try to take any photos on my own shows I’m not a punk anymore. But I still left with The Damned’s “New Rose” in my head.
