…because of summer sales of course! Everyone wants to clear out their warm weather stuff even though outside it’s still hot hot hot. I bought this purse from Laila Rowe for just $18. It’s a nice burst of cheer to help me forget that summer is almost over.
It’s March, the month when spring is supposed to arrive. Instead, it’s snowing today. But even though it’s gray and gloomy, there’s cause for cheer. That’s because in-between seasons are a great time to find bargains. Right now you can find winter/ fall clothes for super cheap and wear them right away! Take the Comptoir des Cotonniers sweater I’m wearing. It was 50% off at Second Time Around. And their sales are still going on! Plus the stores probably won’t be crowded because of the snow. In the meantime, here’s a cute video on how to pronounce that label’s rather daunting name:
Case in point: Eleni’s. I love their cupcakes. They taste great, they’re nut-free, but they’re not cheap. I saw a surprisingly low price listed online for the Valentine’s Day cupcakes, so I called to order a dozen. But my receipt showed I was charged $12 more that the price on the website. I called and was given a $12 refund, even though the customer service rep told me the price online was incorrect (it’s still up on the site by the way). Score!
Then there’s my favorite clothing brand for boys – Tea. Their prices are on the higher side though, so I always watch for sales. But when I recently tried to buy some sweaters from their winter clearance, my online order didn’t go through due to poor wifi. I didn’t take the loss lying down though. I called the next day and the salesperson kindly gave me the lower prices, even though the sale was over (and yes they do follow ethical work practices).
So ask, just be nice when you do it. People are more likely to give you a deal when they’re treated with respect. Happy Valentine’s Day!
A while back I answered part 1 of my “last season” cliffhanger about 3.1 Phillip Lim‘s collection for Target. Here’s part 2, and it has a happy ending! This is the dress I ordered from his collection for $49.99. It took me so long to take it out for a spin because it’s also been a cliffhanger as to when spring is finally going to get here. I’ve finally been able to wear this dress, and it’s garnered raves wherever I go. I went to an event where I knew NO ONE, and EVERYONE came up to me with compliments on my outfit and asked where I got it. One drawback: I don’t think the dress fits me so well. But do you know the old saying, “You wear the clothes, don’t let the clothes wear you”? This is one case in which I don’t mind that my outfit is wearing me. Go ahead!
Did that get your attention? Thought it might. I was thinking of what headline to write for this post. Might as well get right to the point. I bought this Ali Ro dress for just $39 at Second Time Around. I don’t remember what percent it was marked down. All I know is I get crazy compliments on this dress whenever I wear it. And STA’s Labor Day madness sale with 70% off their summer clearance is still going on. I’m really going to have to steel myself from going over there and scooping more stuff up. But you head on down!
My friend Keren and I were very happy when we saw this sign.
It’s for the Eugenia Kim sample sale at 347 West 36th Street between Eighth and Ninth Avenues, #501. You want hats?
They have hats.
The one Keren is wearing in the first photo was originally $300+, but she got it for 50% off. The cute winter hat I bought also originally cost $300+, but I got it for almost 90% off! Take a look…
Yes I look a little like Jason Mraz in this photo. But the hat looks much cooler in person. There are still plenty of great hats at the sale, which runs until 7pm today. And everything is priced at an additional 15% off, so you may score even bigger than I did!
I keep getting these special assignments that take me away from Fashionmomix. But I never stop thinking about how to be a fashionable mom. So I’m back with more advice. Today I’m wearing Tucker. Her stuff normally costs hundreds, but I got this for just $39 courtesy Second Time Around. That’s an upscale consignment shop with locations across the East Coast you should check out. Like my earrings and necklace? I bought those from a street vendor for twenty bucks. Tell me what you think of this look and I’ll be back soon to tell you more ways to look cool without spending all your hard earned cash.
It’s hard to find cool clothes for little boys. But you can’t let girls have all the fun! I’ve looked far and wide, and the first place I go to for nice clothing for boys is Tea. Their stuff isn’t inexpensive, but luckily Haute Look is having a sale right now! Go scoop up some grooviness for your little one.
Fashionmomix loves Michelle Obama’s style but can’t afford her designer duds. But help is on the way! Back in 2009, Michelle wore some outfits by Sophie Theallet. Now the designer has a lower priced line inspired by the First Lady that’s available at The Limited. Check out Michelle’s dresses and compare to The Limited’s line.
Pretty close huh? The collection isn’t available in stores until March 20th but is available online now. At $118, these dresses aren’t cheap. But they could be a good investment, since they’re not too trendy that you can’t wear them season after season. And some of the accessories are more affordable. Take these two clutches on sale for $35.94.
I myself will probably buy this cuff bracelet for $26.90.
