The advance press on 3.1 Phillip Lim’s collection for Target left me too scared to try scoop anything up at an actual store. So I planned to set my alarm and shop online. But shamefully I forgot to do that! What kind of fashion blogger am I? Well a busy mom of course, with so much going on I couldn’t keep everything straight. So I woke up this morning, remembered what an important day this was, and felt aghast! I ran to my computer at 9:30am and thankfully the fashion gods were smiling on me, even though I don’t deserve their mercy. I was able to buy the floral shirt dress and the Boom sweater dress, two of my prime picks. Yes, sadly I lost out on the mini-satchel with gusset. But I’m still excited and thankful about my purchases. I’ll let you know what I think of them once the dresses arrive and I get to try them on.

ALI RO DRESS FOR $39
Did that get your attention? Thought it might. I was thinking of what headline to write for this post. Might as well get right to the point. I bought this Ali Ro dress for just $39 at Second Time Around. I don’t remember what percent it was marked down. All I know is I get crazy compliments on this dress whenever I wear it. And STA’s Labor Day madness sale with 70% off their summer clearance is still going on. I’m really going to have to steel myself from going over there and scooping more stuff up. But you head on down!
RACHEL ROY FOR $15
Bought these sparkly Rachel Roy flats to perk up my winter outfits. They were just $15 on clearance from Housing Works! Their big sale is going on through this evening, so there’s still time to check it out.
SAVE OR SPEND
I need some new glasses. So I went to Warby Parker. I like the fact that for each pair of glasses they sell, Warby Parker gives a pair to someone in need. And their glasses cost just $95 for both the frames and the lenses. Which of these do you like best?
But my dilemma is that I also went to See Eyewear. And I like their glasses a lot better. But they cost around $300! Check out the ones I picked out.
What should I do? Save by buying a pair of Warby Parker glasses? Or get a more expensive pair by SEE? Which ones do you like best? HELP me choose!
HOW TO GET A $300 HAT FOR 90% OFF
My friend Keren and I were very happy when we saw this sign.
It’s for the Eugenia Kim sample sale at 347 West 36th Street between Eighth and Ninth Avenues, #501. You want hats?
They have hats.
The one Keren is wearing in the first photo was originally $300+, but she got it for 50% off. The cute winter hat I bought also originally cost $300+, but I got it for almost 90% off! Take a look…
Yes I look a little like Jason Mraz in this photo. But the hat looks much cooler in person. There are still plenty of great hats at the sale, which runs until 7pm today. And everything is priced at an additional 15% off, so you may score even bigger than I did!
I HEART 125TH STREET
I’M BACK
I keep getting these special assignments that take me away from Fashionmomix. But I never stop thinking about how to be a fashionable mom. So I’m back with more advice. Today I’m wearing Tucker. Her stuff normally costs hundreds, but I got this for just $39 courtesy Second Time Around. That’s an upscale consignment shop with locations across the East Coast you should check out. Like my earrings and necklace? I bought those from a street vendor for twenty bucks. Tell me what you think of this look and I’ll be back soon to tell you more ways to look cool without spending all your hard earned cash.
MR. ROGERS’ BIRTHDAY
Mr. Rogers would have celebrated his 85th birthday this week. In his honor, I am reposting one of my most popular blog entries, an ode to his signature style, “Fashion Tips From Mr. Rogers.” Read it here.
THE HARLEM CLUTCH
My favorite kind of shopping is when I’m actually not looking for anything, and something really fantastic catches my eye. That’s what happened when I was walking across 125th Street yesterday. I saw those beautiful clutches in the photo above, and they made me smile. They’re at Paradise Fashions at 27 West 125th Street, which also has a couple of other boutiques in New York as well as an online store. Those handbags are $100, but there are some lower cost options like these for $39.
And many come with matching shoes. I really love shopping on 125th Street, but you can also order these online if you can’t make it into the city. Paradise has many more cute clutches that I didn’t take pictures of. Just looking at all of them brightened my day.
TEA FOR TUESDAY
It’s hard to find cool clothes for little boys. But you can’t let girls have all the fun! I’ve looked far and wide, and the first place I go to for nice clothing for boys is Tea. Their stuff isn’t inexpensive, but luckily Haute Look is having a sale right now! Go scoop up some grooviness for your little one.
