DRESS LIKE MICHELLE

Fashionmomix loves Michelle Obama’s style but can’t afford her designer duds.  But help is on the way!  Back in 2009, Michelle wore some outfits by Sophie Theallet.  Now the designer has a lower priced line inspired by the First Lady that’s available at The Limited.  Check out Michelle’s dresses and compare to The Limited’s line.

Pretty close huh?  The collection isn’t available in stores until March 20th but is available online now.  At $118, these dresses aren’t cheap.  But they could be a good investment, since they’re not too trendy that you can’t wear them season after season.  And some of the accessories are more affordable.  Take these two clutches on sale for $35.94.

I myself will probably buy this cuff bracelet for $26.90.

The weather outside may be starting to become frightful, but the DKNY sample sale is delightful.  It’s where I bought the gold sequin dress I blogged about here, along with another cute LBD that I got tons of compliments on at a cocktail gathering last night.  So brave the elements to check out the current sale at 260 Fifth Avenue, between 28th and 29th Streets.  It’s going on now through this Saturday.  Hours are 10am-8pm today and Thursday, 10am-7pm Friday, and 10am-2pm Saturday.  I’ve waited until Saturday to shop there and still scored deals. So don’t give up on DKNY, even if you can’t make it there until the weekend!

MORE MARCHESA

From Marchesa at the Oscars to Marchesa at JC Penney, believe it our not.  Yes Marchesa has a new line, Pearl, that goes on sale there tomorrow.  You can check it out here.  Most of it looks like prom wear to me.  But there are a couple of items a fashion forward mom could buy to spruce up her look for a fun night out.  I love this bolero for $50.

And this lace top for $70 is cool too.  Neither of these items is super cheap, but they’re not so trendy that they’d go out of style right away.  So you can wear them for years, a key factor for Fashionmomix when deciding to buy something.

I am mixed on these $70 pants.  At that price they’re not exactly a bargain.  And are they awesome in a crazy cool kind of way, or are they hideous?  What to do you think?

RACHEL COMEY SAMPLE SALE

Holiday season has got me, REALLY got me.  It’s hard to keep my head above water, there’s so much I have to do.  So sorry I haven’t been posting lately.  But I’m trying to come back with a bang.  The Rachel Comey sample sale starts Wednesday and only lasts for two days.  It’s at 268 Mulberry Street at Jersey Street, from 10a to 8pm Wednesday, and 10am to 6pm Thursday.  I’m desperate to make it to this along with the DVF sale.  See you there?!!!!!!!

J.CREW SAMPLE SALE

I’ve loved J.Crew for a long time, waaaaaaay before Michelle Obama made it popular.  This is one brand in which the sizes run big, so I can still wear a size 6!  If you can brave the bad weather, check out the J.Crew sample sale at 260 Fifth Avenue between 28th and 29th Streets.  It runs through Sunday, so if you can’t get there today, there are still more opportunities to score deals on their stylish, fun clothes.  Hours are Tues.-Sat. 10am to 8pm, and Sun. 12pm-6pm, with markdowns on clothes for women, men and kids.

CYBER MONDAY

As you know from my previous post, I’m not a Black Friday Shopper.  I prefer to be home with friends and family over Thanksgiving.  But for Cyber Monday, would I encourage you to take time out from your job to shop online?  I don’t want to seem like I’m advocating that people not put in a hard day’s work.  BUT if you must shop, Racked has got a great list of places with deals.  Check it out here, just don’t say I sent you.

THANKSGIVING IS NOT FOR SHOPPING

I love shopping, and I love deals, otherwise I wouldn’t be able to write this blog.  And I do buy a lot of holiday gifts Thanksgiving weekend.  BUT I don’t believe in shopping on Thanksgiving.   That’s a day to be thankful for what you have, and to be with family and friends.  I don’t want other people to have to work on Thanksgiving just so I can save on some holiday gifts.  So I don’t have shopping advice for Thanksgiving Day.  Instead, I hope you and your loved ones have a wonderful holiday together.

Naughty & Nice

Sometimes I blog for others, and sometimes I produce videos for others.  When you’re shopping this holiday season, don’t get caught buying from a company which doesn’t have a consumer-friendly policy.  Here’s a video with a “Naughty & Nice” list to choose from.  I made this with the help of Consumer Reports’ Tod Marks and a couple of elves.

MORE SALES AND SANDY

100 stores are holding sales this weekend in the Lower East Side, the East Village, and Nolita as part of the Capsule Network Neighborhood event.  You can find a list of participating boutiques here.  Restaurants and bars in the area are also offering discounts and special happy hours.  A lot of these businesses were hurt because of damage and/or power outages due to Hurricane Sandy, so they could use your bucks.  And all stores are accepting cash donations for the Red Cross Hurricane Sandy Relief.  This is a good way to kick off holiday shopping season and help those in need.

THAKOON AND SANDY

I love Thakoon’s groovy clothes.  And I love even more that he’s having a sample sale with prices as low as $50!  And I love the most that he’s donating part of the proceeds to victims of Hurricane Sandy!  Shoppers at the sale are also encouraged to bring items like diapers, toiletries and flashlights to donate.  The sale is going on now through Saturday, November 17, from 8:30am to 6:30pm, at 270 Lafayette Street, Suite 1005, at Prince Street.  Bargainistas, you can shop, save, AND help someone!
